Reportedly, Xbox plans to present advertisements in the game
According to reports, Xbox plans to allow advertisers to present their ads in videogames. Ads in the game are not a new concept. In recent years, they have been integrated less intrusively with games such as fortnite masks and crossed events for new films. This has been an incredibly successful marketing tool for numerous film studios in recent years and adds a fun layer to the game. Before that, there were games that were a bit shameless about it. Games as Fila of Santos 2 and paraíso de exhaustion presented advertising fences with advertisements of real world things, the last of which included a Barack Obama campaign ad in 2008.
According to business insider sources say that the old form of advertising in the game may be returning through Xbox. According to reports, Xbox is seeking to render things like advertising fences in the game in free titles so advertisers can use them and have it ready for the third quarter of 2022 (around autumn). The idea is that this will be an opportunity to make money for the developer, instead of Xbox, which does not plan to stay with a part of the income. According to reports, Microsoft is also concerned that this can irritate players, so it is being selective with brands that can take advantage of these advertising opportunities without interrupting the game. Microsoft does not have plans to allow advertisers to collect data about players so they can create directed ads. In a statement to Business Insider, the owner of the platform did not confirm these plans, but affirmed that “they are always looking for ways to improve the experience of players and developers.”
Games like nba 2k21 have been criticized by announcements that can not be omitted and flagrant placement of products, so players have expressed their discontent to include ads in a game. If it’s something as simple as a poster on a wall, an advertising fence in the background or something that does not stop the game and fill the screen, it is difficult to imagine that it is too inconvenient. In the worst case, it is an immersion switch, but if it helps developers to earn money and prevent unpleasant microotransractions, it could be a victory.
